Real Estate

Equestrian estates and ranches have a firm grip on the reins of luxury real estate markets around the globe. Here’s a roundup of what’s available at a variety of locales including the United States, Australia, France and Spain:

Olympic Training Grounds

A Mediterranean-inspired home with ocean and mountain views sits at the heart of this 22-acre ranch in Goleta, California. But horse fanciers may be more focused on the fully appointed six-horse barn, the nine pipe paddocks, the quarter-mile track, the riding arena, the 12 sheltered turn-out areas and the 60-foot covered and lit pen.

Buena Terra Canyon Ranch has long been the training ground for Olympic-level athletes and horses, including the highly decorated dressage mare Brentina.

Terraced grounds surround the 6,000 square-foot main house, which features multiple outdoor entertaining spaces, 18-foot tall exposed beam ceilings, three bedrooms and five bathrooms. There’s also an apartment, a tack room and a feed room in the barn.

Listed with Kelly Knight of Village Properties, 1220 Franklin Ranch Road, Goleta, California, is priced at US $12.5 million.

Working Horse Ranch

Rancho De Malo is a 30-acre fully irrigated working horse ranch set near the town of Basalt, Colorado. The ranch, with panoramic views of Crown Mountain, is surrounded by more than 2,000 acres of open space.

The heated barn includes 14 horse stalls with automatic watering, remote cameras and a three-bay mechanic’s shop. The upper level contains 3,200 square feet of living space with a full kitchen, a bar, a lounge area, a game area and a dance floor.

The 2,000-square-foot log cabin-style main residence looks out on one of the five stocked ponds for a total of seven bedrooms and six bathrooms within 9,300 square feet of interior space on the ranch.

The property, at 300 Horseshoe Drive, Basalt, Colorado, is priced at US $17.95 million. Corey Crocker of Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate is the listing agent.

Polo Estate in Sydney, Australia

This 287-acre polo venue and premier event location in New South Wales, Australia, includes three professional-grade polo fields, a 30-acre lagoon, an equine center with indoor arenas, extensive stabling and multiple event spaces.

The location has been the site of numerous annual tournaments and a popular filming spot.

The entertainment facility could be transformed into a private clubhouse or an elaborate home. Features include an aquarium backed bar, wood-clad walls and beamed ceilings.

Ken Jacobs of Private Property Global has the listing for 100 Ridges Lane, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, which is priced at about US $37 million.

French Riding School

Overlooking the Dordogne valley in southwestern France, this 19th century chateau sits on 52 acres of woodlands and meadows with stables, a covered riding school and a dovecote. The 6,458-square-foot school includes barns and outbuildings.

Period features have been preserved in the 4,300-square-foot turreted chateau, which has a new roof, tall beamed ceilings, multiple fireplaces, seven bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The property in Lalinde, Nouvelle Aquitaine, France, is priced at US $1.77 million. Pierre de Luzan of Groupe Mercure is the listing agent.

Breeding Grounds

A rustic farmhouse sits at the center of a 4.5-acre horse breeding property bordering protected green areas near the coastal town of Jávea, Spain. The site, which has been used to raise Pura Raza Espanol horses, includes a swimming pool with a solarium, stables and a horse riding track.

The farm house is fenced in with stone walls and accessed through a motorized, sliding wood gate. Features within the nearly 5,400 square feet of interior space include multiple living areas, wood-beam ceilings, five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Covered terrace space overlooks the riding arena.

The property is available for about US $2 million and represented by Maria del Mar Bas of Inmobiliaria Rimontgo.
