Best-selling mystery novelists Jonathan and Faye Kellerman are preparing to write a new chapter in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where for their custom home is on the market. The contemporary Pueblo-style dwelling is listed for $2.595 million.

Perched on a ridge, the earth-tone stucco house sits on a nearly three-acre lot with views of the surrounding mountain ranges. An adobe-type rounded wall lines the gated driveway.

In keeping with the Southwestern architecture, rough-hewn lumber posts support the entry porch, which shelters the front door.

Inside the generous-sized foyer, beamed ceilings mark the transition to the living room. Details include high ceilings, hardwood and Saltillo tile flooring and plaster walls.

Windows brighten the brick fireplace in the living room. Beams line the ceiling. A wall of glass doors opens to a dining patio with views of the surrounding hillsides.

The dining room has French doors and sidelights that flood the space with natural light. A less formal dining nook adjoins the open-concept kitchen and incorporates a kiva-style fireplace. French doors off the kitchen open to patio space.

Multiple patios and terraces create additional outdoor living spaces.

The primary bedroom suite incorporates another kiva-style fireplace. There are a total of four bedrooms in the main house. Including the guest house, which has its own kitchen, there are five bedrooms and 6,144 square feet of living space.

Jonathan Kellerman is the prolific author of crime novels, nonfiction works and children’s books. Faye Kellerman writes detective fiction and is known for the Peter Deck/Rina Lazarus series.

The house they are selling is part of their larger Sage Hill compound, where they have written many of their mysteries. Another portion of the compound, which included another custom home of 5,400 square feet, sold this month. It had been listed for a little over $2.22 million.

The property is about 10 minutes away from downtown Santa Fe, known for its Pueblo-style architecture, world-renowned arts scene and historic buildings including chapels and shrines.

Santa Fe, both a county seat and the capital of New Mexico, is the site of the Georgie O’Keefe Museum, the Museum of International Folk Art and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, to name a few. There’s even a bug museum.

The culinary mecca offers such fare as Native American fry bread-style sopaipillas, green-chili stew, Frito pie and posole, a hominy-based red-chili stew.

Outdoor pursuits include skiing, hiking and mountain biking.

Among area airports is Albuquerque International Sunport, about an hour to the southwest.
